"Reathusana" is a Sotho word meaning helping each other. The Reathusana Child Youth Justice Project is part of Conquest For Life's Youth At Risk Project.
The project is aimed at strengthening and rehabilitating awaiting trial Young offenders under the age of 18. This will be achieved by intensive life skills sessions, mentorship programs, arts and culture activities, training work shops for young offenders while incarcerated. It also aims at transformating young offenders mindsets by developing a positive self- image and sense of responsibility as well as social values through assessments and evaluation.
Youth faces complex problems that do not respond to a quick fix, but rather require a long-term perspective and multiple approaches. Conquest For Life employs the following operating principles to develop pathways of success for young people:
1. Life skils, Development and Counseling
2. Capacity Building
3. Victim Offender Conference and Video dialogue
4. Pre-release and parole
5. Mentorship and Aftercare
6. Research and Advocacy
7. Arts and Culture
8. Trail and Sentence preparation
9. Letter writing and Video Conferencing.

Young people in prison
Conquest For Life is facilitating the Reathusana Project at the Johannesburg Prison. Both males - Friday's and females - Thursday's are participating in the project. Close to 20 females and 60 males participate in Life Skills every week.We want to extend the program to the 1500 inmates but due to time, staff and resources we limit it to the participating participants.
Negotiations are underway with the Leeuhof Prison in Vereeniging and other prisons to extend the program.
