We have had volunteers from across the world come to work with us at Conquest; this page presents some of our past and present volunteers. Here you can read about their experiences and gain more of an idea of what life will be like and the kind of things that you may encounter on a daily basis. Who knows, you could end up being on this page in the near future!

My Experience:
I spent six weeks at Conquest For Life and had a fantastic time! Fresh faced out of university I was keen to experience a ‘gang’ culture – and even just find out what exactly a gang was!
For me the best thing about my time at Conquest For Life was that Glen gave me the freedom to choose what I wanted. His attitude was if you’re keen, capable, go for it! This was great as it gave me the opportunity to get as much as I could out of my time, but still have a lasting impact. This was the most important thing for me – I knew I would learn hugely from the experience, but it was equally important that I give something back.
I really enjoyed my time at CFL and owe great thanks to Glen and the team. To anyone interested, I would say go for it, but be ready for a challenge and don’t expect to be spoon fed.”

My Experience:
"I came here with no expectations whatsoever but I was very excited as to what my experience of CFL and Jo'burg would be like. What I discovered was a community of very friendly and warm people.
The house at Creswell Park reminds me of when I was at uni as you're living with other CFL volunteers and the atmosphere is both crazy and fun!
Working for CFL has to be one of the best work experiences I've ever had because getting up in the morning to go to work was not an ordeal, and your day just flies by while you are working.
The staff work very hard on their projects because of their commitment to making a difference within their community; coming over to take part in this has been both a great experience and a privilege."

My Experience:
"Upon arriving at CFL, I was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant and friendly staff that I encountered. The staff members were young people like me and they were open, honest and easy-going. It did not take me a long time to adjust and after two weeks, I knew everyone in the office by name and I felt comfortable that I was part of a community that was dedicated to doing something great.
At first I was not quite sure what my role in the organisation would be and how I would contribute, I ended up writing my own job description and creating a whole new space for myself!
Here at CFL, I have constantly been challenged to do more than I thought I could and to use many of my different talents at once. I have also learned to create my own challenges and to feel good when I move past one challenge unto the next."

My Experience:
This is my first stay in South Africa and it is truly one of the most intense experiences of my entire life. I have been here for two months now and for me it feels like a minute and a lifetime at the same time. I have seen, heard, felt and learnt more than in one year at home.
I was excited but also a bit nervous about coming here but the Conquest community was so warm that I felt comfortable from the start. Although they seemed to doubt that somehow (just because I had to sleep on the floor), I was very happy that I could spend my first weekend with them in Schmidtsdrift. Other highlights were the two- weeks-camp at the farm (especially because John was so concerned about my well-being ;), the workshops I’ve been involved in (Thanks so much for these opportunities!), going into the Westbury community, our day in Soweto (Thanks to Arthur and his family!), looking deep into Patrick’s and James’ eyes at our house in Creswell Park every evening…
I hope that I can give something back by contributing what I can to the work of the organization. I am looking forward to the things still to come and learning more about this country, the community and the people. Thanks to the whole organization, Glen and the great people here for giving me this opportunity!
